OECD: COVID-19 Call to Action for Responsible Mineral Supply Chains

OECD+1.png

On May 6, the OECD published a guideline for Responsible Mineral Supply Chains in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The OECD’s Multi-Stakeholder Steering Group (MSG) expressed concerns about a regression in supply chain due diligence as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the absence of formal audits, there has been an uptick in criminal behavior. As armed groups return to African and Latin American mining zones, the security of women, men and children in artisanal mining communities and supply chains is under threat. The OECD stresses the importance of carrying out due diligence and support for on-the-ground initiatives in Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas (CAHRAs).
