Making air travel safe and easy during COVID

The airline industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, but advancements in rapid testing present new opportunities for safe travel.

Departure or arrival rapid testing could make air travel considerably safer and increase confidence for persons who need to travel for essential business or personal reasons. Airport testing and tracking also creates the possibility of reduced quarantine times.

Alberta and Vancouver airports launch COVID-19 rapid testing pilots

Alberta’s arrival rapid testing pilot program

In October, the Alberta Government announced a rapid testing pilot at Calgary International Airport and the Coutts border crossing to replace the mandatory 14-day quarantine for international travelers. Travellers entering Alberta at select border crossings could be allowed to leave quarantine after their first on arrival test comes back negative. They will have to take another mandatory test six or seven days after then (Source: Government of Canada).

The program, which started in November, is a partnership between the federal government and the government of Alberta to support travel and tourism. Persons eligible for the pilot must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or foreign nationals who are not restricted to enter Canada.

Vancouver International Airport plans rapid tests for departures

One week after Alberta’s announcement, Vancouver International Airport announced its own plans for a domestic departures rapid testing pilot in partnership with Westjet.

Testing will take place each day in Westjet departures during a 4-hour window. The rapid tests will return results in 15 minutes. Travellers who test negative will be allowed to board their flight as normal.

How MIMOSI Health streamlines the airport testing process

MIMOSI Health is a digital health platform providing real-time data across collaborating stakeholders in the COVID-19 testing process, to support safe travel and prevent community spread.

Built on blockchain technology, the platform supports secure, reliable data capture and sharing between testers, nurses, contact tracers, and Public Health partners. MIMOSI Health acts as an aggregation point that easily interacts with different systems to stop fragmentation and provide the big picture data needed to act effectively.

As rapid testing is more widely adopted, MIMOSI Health is an excellent choice to manage test data and communications. Contact us today for an in-depth discussion and product demo.
